Abstract:	飯店一詞的英文為hotel，來自法語的Hotel，又源於拉丁語之Hospitale。其原意係指在法國大革命前，許多貴族利用市郊的私人別墅，盛情地接待其深交或高貴的朋友；亦即在鄉間招待貴賓用的別墅稱為hotel，後來歐美各國就沿用此一名詞。另一種說法係指稱在巴黎很常見的大房子，其內附有傢具的公寓，依旅客需要按日、週、月出租，但不提供餐飲服務(吳勉勤，2003)。為了便於區隔不同的市場，飯店可依其性質、房客居住時間的長短、規模、計價方式之不同，加以區分(謝明成、吳健祥，1995 )
