Abstract:	工業安全的目的即在於防止意外事故的發生，所謂事故是、「未經計劃，且不期望發生的事件，經由人不安全的行為或動作，在不安全的狀況中發生，而造成無意的傷害，死亡或財產的損失」。另廣義的事故可定義為「凡是干擾或打斷正常工作的意外事件」，因此事故發生時必然造成兩方面的損失，其一使工作停頓，造成時間、物料、設備、財產的損失，其二造成人員的傷害、殘廢或死亡。而在工廠中因事故而產生人員傷害，或妨礙正常生產，或生產設備的損失等，稱之為工業傷害。
